Minister of Word and Sacrament, Head of Staff

Rev. Dakota Whitaker

Originally from Montgomery, Alabama, Rev. Dakota Whitaker is pastor of our Church and the Head of Staff. Dakota has two daughters, Lennon and Dorothy, and a wife, Megan.

Rev. Dakota always sensed a call from God to the Church but spent most of his early life in music, recording, and songwriting.

Rev. Dakota loves preaching and teaching and considers Martin Luther King, Jr., Karl Barth, Bob Marley, and the Church Fathers and Mothers to be his biggest influences.

Rev. Dakota's favorite part of his ministry is being a Christian alongside his Church; celebrating with those who rejoice, mourning with those who mourn, and standing with those who the Lord stands with: the vulnerable, poor, and oppressed of our world.

As the Executive Director, Alicia brings not only a lifetime connection to Camp Westminster and Westminster Church of Detroit, but also 26 years of experience in education and camp leadership. Alicia’s time at camp extends back to 1984.  As she grew so did her deep love of camp. She moved through the ranks from counselor to waterfront director and served her final years as the program director.

After ten years of living in London, England with her husband David and two children, Madeline and Thomas, they relocated back to the US and settled in Traverse City, MI.  This is when her relationship with Camp Westminster was reignited.  Both Madeline and Thomas are now seasoned campers and Alicia returned to support camp in 2021 by volunteering as the Program Director.

Alicia is delighted to take up this new role as the Executive Director.  Her vision for the camp includes honoring important traditions while developing programs that invoke a sense of curiosity, belonging, and spirituality.  Let’s all “give a yell” in welcoming Alicia back to Camp Westminster!
